Fashion Forward hones in on used clothing in online classifieds market

A Toronto-based business is trying to provide an online solution for those with overflowing wardrobes that is more specific than hocking stuff on Craigslist.

Fashion Forward offers free accounts to Canadians and Americans in select U.S. cities so they can sell their used clothing. Launched in June 2012, the site is organizing an event for Moms to sell their maternity clothes and is also running a contest set to reward the member who posts the most items. The site promises that sellers get to keep 100 per cent of the money on their sales, unlike a consignment shop arrangement.

Behind the clothing-only online classifieds site are co-founders Melvin Constantino, an interior designer, and Jodi Goodfellow, who got the idea for the site after her own high-end wardrobe began dominating the space in her condo. She wanted a good way to sell her clothes at a discount, and put some money in her wallet to fund her habit of keeping up with the latest fashion trends.

Microsoft unveiled a new logo today.

The site offers free accounts to sellers, and allows buyers to purchase without an account directly from the sellers. There are some premium services available for a fee, but they are optional.

Tips for selling clothes on Fashion Forward include being descriptive in the text of the posting as well as posting a clear photo of the item without a distracting background. Including details such as size, material, original cost, and more will help buyers find what they’re looking for.
