EMC makes additions to high-end storage line

EMC Corp. introduced versions of its high-end EMC Symmetrix DMX-3 system, mid-tier EMC CLARiiON CX3 UltraScale series system, EMC Disk Library virtual tape library system and EMC Celerra NS series IP system.

The Symmetrix DMX-3 950 system features full DMX-3 capabilities.  It is designed for increasingly space- and power-constrained data centres and as a key element of a business continuity strategy using EMC SRDF/S (Symmetrix Remote Data Facility/synchronous) and SRDF/A (asynchronous) software.

A combined Fibre Channel/iSCSI feature of the 4 Gbps CLARiiON CX3 UltraScale series systems, are intended to provide advanced functionality and up to 49 per cent more iSCSI performance and 74 per cent more Fibre Channel performance in combined environments than alternative systems.  In addition, EMC Navisphere Quality of Service Manager (NQM) software allows users to allocate CLARiiON resources to meet application service levels, and Navisphere enhancements are designed to make it easier to configure the array using a wizard-based management tool to reduce the number of common configuration steps by up to 70 per cent.

The third generation of the EMC Disk Library leverages the power of CLARiiON CX3 UltraScale series systems to double the performance of previous EMC Disk Library models.  With 70PB of capacity deployed in over two years, the EMC Disk Library also supports many configurations and applications.

The Celerra NS series IP systems use the performance of the CLARiiON CX3 UltraScale architecture and a set of built-in features. The Celerra NS40, NS40G (Gateway) and NS80 and NS80G systems use next-generation EMC blade server technology for improved performance, scalability and availability.

Networking

Fluke updates NetTool with diagnostics features

Fluke Networks Canada announced the NetTool Series II Inline Network Tester with NetProve diagnostics, to identify and isolate enterprise network and application connectivity problems.

The Series II NetTool’s one-step NetProve test pinpoints problems so that technicians, regardless of skill level, can recognize the source of the problem. NetTool Series II helps identify whether the problem originates with a device, like a server, switch or router, or an application, like SMTP, FTP or HTTP.  The NetProve results can be saved as a report to document connectivity status.

NetTool provides a view into the actual traffic between the network and end devices such as PCs, VoIP phones, access points, printers and copiers.  With Series II that inline visibility is extended to include Gigabit Ethernet links.

NetTool Series II is available in two models: NetTool Series II Pro with NetProve and inline testing of 10/100/1000 networks, and NetTool Series II Pro VoIP, which adds the VoIP diagnostic option.  Both models are available.
