Epson introduces two scanners for small workgroup environments
Epson Canada Ltd. announced the release of two document imaging scanners designed for small business workgroups, the Epson GT-2500 and GT-2500 Plus. These flatbed scanners are engineered to capture 48-bit colour scans up to 8.5-in. by 14-in. in size at resolutions up to 1200 by 1200 dpi for greater detail. They can scan documents up to 27 ppm in monochrome and up to 11 ppm in colour in 300 dpi. Both scanners come standard with several productivity-enhancing features such as a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), automatic duplexing and one-button scanning.

The Epson GT-2500’s and GT-2500 Plus’ ADF and auto-duplex features enable users to feed and scan up to 50 double-sided sheets of paper at 600 by 600 dpi resolution. Another valuable feature on both models is Epson’s ColourTrue II imaging technology, which can be used to integrate more advanced hardware and software with these scanners for higher levels of color precision and reduction of scan noise.

The two scanners feature compact designs and offer high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity for fast data transmission. They are also compatible with a variety of operating systems including Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP as well as Mac OS X.

The Epson GT-2500 and GT-2500 Plus are priced at $699 and $1,099 respectively and are available now. The Epson GT-2500 Plus has all the features of the GT-2500 but adds a network-ready card that enables it to be shared with other workgroup members over a LAN. This network-ready card is available as a separate option on the Epson GT-2500.

IT Collaborate software provides real time error reporting for .Net applications
IT Collaborate’s BugSentry issue tracking software gives small and medium-sized software firms automatic error reporting. BugSentry targets Microsoft’s .Net platform, but also works with Visual Basic and COM applications.

BugSentry consists of three parts: a runtime library that developers add to their applications, a Web service running on IT Collaborate’s servers and a developer client. The runtime library accepts submissions from the developer’s program, encrypts them, caches them locally and submits them to the Web service. The Web service saves the encrypted message to disk and manages user accounts. The developer client downloads the encrypted messages, decrypts them and stores them locally.

The backend Web service runs on BugSentry’s servers. The service receives issues from both the BugSentry client and can also communicate with third party applications.

The developer client connects to the BugSentry servers, receives error messages, decrypts them, and displays them to the user.

BugSentry standard starts at US$14.99 per user per month or US$149.99 per user per year. Five user licenses cost US$59.99 per month or US$599.99 per year.
