Cisco introduces Cisco Catalyst 6500 switching platform
Cisco introduced the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 32 with Programmable Intelligent Services Accelerator (PISA) technology.

Cisco also introduced a blueprint for network services called the Campus Communication Fabric that guides information technology (IT) managers through the transformation of their network into a strategic platform for all communications and collaboration.

Highlights of the introductions include:

  • Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 32 with Programmable Intelligent Services Accelerator (PISA) Technology
  • Expanded WAN Services Aggregation Portfolio with Catalyst 6500 Capabilities and Cisco 7201 Router

The Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 32 with PISA integrates deep packet-inspection capabilities to identify applications on the network and then allocate the necessary network resources to support each application based on business priorities. The Supervisor Engine 32 with PISA also provides distributed protection against notable worms and viruses and day-zero attacks in the campus edge using Flexible Packet Matching (FPM) technology. These capabilities are hardware-accelerated on the Supervisor Engine 32 with PISA and therefore can scale to multi-gigabit speeds.

Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 32 with PISA Technology and 8×1 Gigabit Ethernet Uplinks starts at US$28,000 and will be available in June 2007. Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 32 with PISA Technology and 2x10Gigabit Ethernet Uplinks starts at $28,000 and will be available in June 2007. Cisco 7201 Router starts at US$24,000 and is available now.

Corel announces Ulead VideoStudio 11 and Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus
Corel Corp. announced the availability of Ulead VideoStudio 11 and Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus.

Features of VideoStudio 11 include the MPEG Optimizer. The MPEG Optimizer helps users choose the MPEG settings for rendering video when combining clips in multiple formats. It analyzes the bitrates of clips on the timeline and suggests encoding settings.

The Plus version of VideoStudio includes Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator Technology. This solution converts two channel stereo sound to Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.

VideoStudio 11 supports all formats, including standard and high-definition video, images and audio. Video can be captured from virtually any video source: DV camcorders (including HDV and AVCHD camcorders), hard drive camcorders (MOD file format), USB camcorder devices, mobile phones, set-top DVD recorders, digital and analog TV tuners, VCRs and Webcams.

With the templates in the Movie Wizard, users can create their own Hollywood-style openings using their personal video clips in multiple animated frames. VideoStudio users can share their videos on-the-go with a Microsoft Zune as well as the smartphones and other mobile devices. VideoStudio Plus customers also have support for the Apple iPod, Sony PSP, YouTube and Nokia mobile phones.

The Auto Color & Tone feature auto-corrects the color and tone of videos recorded in low light or less-than-perfect white balance conditions. A DeBlock Filter has been added to clean up videos with blocky compression artifacts, such as those downloaded from the Web.

Ulead VideoStudio 11 also provides Overlay Video Tools for combining transparency with mask or chroma key effects and for cropping the results on-screen to remove any unwanted elements.

Ulead VideoStudio 11 Standard and Plus editions are available from www.corel.com. The product will be widely available at resellers and retailers in North America beginning in May 2007.  Suggested retail pricing is US$89.99 for the standard version and US$129.99 for the Plus version. Upgrade pricing is also available for registered users of previous versions.  For more information on Ulead VideoStudio 11, please visit www.corel.com or www.ulead.com.
