Canon launches imageRunner 1023 series

Canon Canada Inc. introduced the imageRunner 1023 Series, consisting of three models – the imageRunner 1023iF, the imageRunner 1023N and the imageRunner 1023 – all of which operate at up to 23 pages-per-minute (ppm), based on letter-sized output.

Each model in the series supports advanced digital copying and printing capabilities using Canon’s Ultra Fast Rendering II LT (UFRII LT) technology or optional PCL 5e/6 page description languages, as well as built-in Color Scanning (TWAIN/WIA) functionality to enable users to convert hard-copy based information into electronic format.  The imageRunner 1023 Series devices can be connected directly to a user’s workstation using the standard USB 2.0 High Speed port, or leveraged as a shared network resource through a 10/100BaseTX Ethernet interface (standard with the imageRunner 1023iF and imageRunner 1023N models; option for the imageRunner 1023 model).

Image capture is accomplished through Canon’s Contact Image Sensor (CIS) technology installed on the scanner to read images at up to 600 x 600 dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution.

Setting it apart from the competition, the imageRunner 1023iF model has standard colour document distribution capabilities.  With this functionality, the imageRunner 1023iF is capable of scanning and sending colour documents in TIFF, JPEG and PDF formats to e-mail addresses, file folder (SMB/FTP) on a network, and I-Fax destinations.  With Canon’s PDF High Compression mode on the new device, colour images can be handled over the network.  This model also supports fax capabilities at Super G3 speed as standard, to send and receive documents.

The imageRunner 1023 Series devices have a legal-sized platen glass to handle single-page originals or odd-sized objects such as books and maps.  Each model comes standard with Automatic Duplexing, a 500-sheet front-loading Paper Cassette and 100-sheet Stack Bypass. Each model also offers the ability to add an additional 500-sheet paper cassette for a total capacity of 1,100 sheets. The imageRunner 1023iF/1023N models offer a 50-sheet Duplexing Automatic Document Feeder (DADF) for quick handling of multi-page originals.

NCR EasyPoint aimed at the bank branch

NCR Corp. introduced the NCR EasyPoint 42 for account services in the bank branch environment. This self-service device is designed to assist financial institutions as they seek to increase staff availability to promote and sell products and services.

The NCR EasyPoint 42 can provide several noncash services, including advertising the financial institution’s latest product information in branch, automating the account sign-up process and migrating low-value transactions, such as change-of-address, statement request and electronic payments, away from the teller or customer service desk and onto a more appropriate channel. Furthermore, the NCR EasyPoint 42 can familiarize and help migrate customers to the Internet banking channel and support strategies designed to provide differentiated customer service to predetermined customer segments, such as nonbank customers who enter the branch, NCR said.

Supporting motion picture quality video and multimedia, the unit can be configured to meet a variety of business needs through a range of processing, display, printing, mounting and peripheral options.

LifeBooks offer convertible options

Fujitsu Canada Inc. announced the LifeBook P1610 convertible notebook, a 2.2-pound machine with an 8.9-inch indoor/outdoor touch screen display. Fujitsu also announced the LifeBook T4215 Tablet PC, an edition of its 4.3 pound full-size convertible notebook featuring the Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

The LifeBook P1610 notebook is available with Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 or Microsoft Windows XP Professional. A 8.9-inchWXGA indoor/outdoor display combines transmissive and transflective technologies for viewing. In indoor lighting conditions, a backlight illuminates the screen. In outdoor lighting conditions, a reflective surface within the LCD takes advantage of the sunlight to make the screen even brighter. If the outside light is bright enough, users can turn off the backlight completely, extending the battery life.

In addition, the display is touch sensitive, enabling users to navigate through applications and the Web using either a stylus or a finger. It offers up to seven hours of battery life.

The LifeBook T4215 Tablet PC now offers three 12.1-inch display options including a new indoor SXGA+ display, an indoor XGA display, and an indoor/outdoor XGA display. A convertible Tablet PC with a modular bay offers up to 10 hours of battery life with dual batteries without increasing the thickness of the system.

The LifeBook P1610 notebook joins the LifeBook T4215 Tablet PC in offering a bi-directional display hinge, which turns the screen in both directions. The notebooks’ design is complemented with the Fujitsu Shock Sensor utility, an accelerometer-based hard disk drive protection system that retracts the hard drive head if a sudden movement or vibration is detected, reducing the possibility of data loss. The sensor can also be set to password-lock the system if it is touched, preventing the unauthorized access of data.

The LifeBook P1610 notebook and the LifeBook T4215 Tablet PC also include Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2), built-in biometric fingerprint sensor, and BIOS support for Absolute Software’s Computrace computer theft recovery, data protection, and secure asset tracking software.

The Fujitsu LifeBook P1610 notebook is priced at $2,1211 for a base configuration, and the LifeBook T4215 Tablet PC is priced at $2,2841 for a base configuration. Both notebooks are immediately available.
