BlackBerry partners with Vuzix for enterprise-grade smart glasses

BlackBerry Ltd. is continuing to leverage its strength in the enterprise market with a new partnership that will see it start delivering connected wearable devices.

The Waterloo-based company has teamed up with Vuzix, a global wearable display technology supplier, to sell smart glasses that will enable IT departments to more efficiently manage and secure data.

Vuzix’ M300 Smart Glasses will be deployed with BlackBerry Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) software, and allow millions of employees wearing head-worn wearable devices on the job to “communicate clearly and access critical data, without interruption from the task at hand,” Vuzix says in an Aug. 10 press release.

Paul Travers, president and CEO of Vuzix, adds that he is “excited to partner with BlackBerry, a global leader in secure operating systems, mobile communications and mobile device management to deliver secure and simple applications to BlackBerry’s enterprise customers built around the Vuzix M300 Smart Glasses.”

BlackBerry’s UEM manages wearable devices and connects customers to their various endpoints, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops, on a secure and scalable platform. It supports all major operating systems and gives IT users control, visibility, and flexibility to secure such endpoints.

“As more and more devices and connection points emerge, IT departments are tasked with not only ensuring data and information are secure, but also providing a unified workspace for employees,” Mark Wilson, senior vice president and chief evangelist at BlackBerry, explains. “We’re excited to partner with Vuzix to provide an innovative solution that will improve productivity and most importantly help keep people and information safe.”

Vuzix will be showcasing their technology at BlackBerry’s Security Summit 2017 in London at the end of October, and in New York mid-November.
