Big data startup gets big seed funding

A big data startup in Kanata, Ont. outside of Ottawa has secured a big seed financing round.

According to a report from Canadian Private Equity, Openera Inc. has raised $250,000 in seed financing from unnamed investors. A developer of email attachment storage solutions, Openera’s founders include CEO Peter Lalonde (formerly of GridIron Software) and CTO Marc Lennox (formerly of Vontiva Mobile Solutions and Mxi Technologies).

Openera offers three primary products: FileFinder, AutoFile and, coming soon, File Analytics.

FileFinder is an iPhone app that helps users find files from their e-mail in a hurry when they’re on their smartphone, and share it with contacts via email or social networks. AutoFile integrated your email with cloud storage services such as DropBox and Google Drive, to autosave attachments and files to your favoured cloud service, create rules for where files should go automatically, and backup attachments.

Openera’s FileFinder iPhone app is available through iTunes.

Finally, coming soon from Openera is FileAnalytics, a tool to help users monitor, measure and manage their files and cloud storage usage. For businesses, it will allow them to het an overview of corporate files and cloud storage used by employees, track and monitor sensitive company files, track down rogue clouds and ensure regulatory compliance, and identify ways to reduce cloud storage costs.

Pricing for the Openera platform ranges from free for a Basic account to $50 for Pro, with a Business package coming soon.
