Velocity Engine a small footprint database

Bearfoot Software AS has released its Velocity Engine 1.5 (VEMySQL-1.5) database engine for MySQL. VEMySQL is available as free download and is available for Windows and Linux.

The kernel database system (VE-engine) is a small footprint database engine occupying about 100KB memory. Performance is comparable to best performing database engines that are available for MySQL, Barefoot Software said.

VEMySQL-1.5 is specifically targeted for smaller mobile devices that have limited internal resources available for database programs.

Bearfoot Software AS also announced Bearfoot Soundex, which is said is the only soundex system in the market that may define all spell- and pronounce variations in a language. Bearfoot Soundex allows an unlimited number of separate languages defined in one system. Bearfoot Soundex is available on request, and free of charge.

Copy2calendar to ease appointment-making

LoquiSoft has released Copy2calendar, designed to reduce the time and effort to create a calendar entry in a personal information manager such as Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes or Palm Desktop.

When you receive an e-mail with the date and time of an upcoming event, you just highlight the text, press Ctrl+C twice and that’s it!  A new calendar entry is created.  Copy2calendar 2.0 is available free for non-commercial use.

The alternative to Copy2calendar, are the inevitable steps: first – memorize or note down the date and time; second – launch a personal information manager; third – change to calendar view; fourth – browse for this appointment’s date and time; fifth – click on the appointment’s time; sixth – create a new calendar entry; seventh – put in the text.

Copy2calendar, on the other hand, is tightly integrated in the Windows Clipboard.  Users can extract date and time from a wide variety of sources: mail software, Web browser, office applications and more.

Copy2calendar runs under Windows 2000/Windows XP and is free for noncommercial use.  Registration on LoquiSoft is required. Licenxes for commercial use are available at US$24.95.
