Toronto’s Ryerson University isn’t just a place where thousands of students have started classes this week. It’s also a hotbed of tech startup ingenuity that can be used for student survival.

Now that you’ve put your new clothes on for the first day of classesand figured out whether your course materials are in iBooks, check outsome back-to-school tech tools created by startups incubated atRyerson’s Digital Media Zone.

Spenz:This free iPhone app helps cash-strapped students track theirspending. It automatically integrates with your bank account and alsorecommends deals near you based on what you’ve bought in the past.

WhatImWear.in:Another free mobile app, this one lets studentfashionistas snap photos of their outfits, then share them instantly.You can also create your own ‘style story’ to share with friends. Has astrong social media component to encourage the sharing of style tipsand tales around the globe.

Loupe:What to do with all those photos you’ve already taken of FroshWeek? Make a photo collage using Loupe’s app in under 30 seconds. Thenshare, save and print them if you like. A sort of personal yearbook,perhaps?

TeamSave:You’re cheap. So are all your classmates. Use TeamSavetogether to harness group buying and save money. Notifies you of localdaily deals in 16 cities.

ElectricCourage: Once classes are over for the day, headout on thetown at night. Use this app to plan your evening by searching fornearby night spots. Make or read suggestions and feedback about localclubs, including daily specials and even waiting times at the door. Nowif only they’d make an app for getting past bouncers.
