Anti-Groupon mobile app TikTok now available in Calgary

Fast rising free deals mobile application TikTok is headed for Calgary.

The app which recently rolled out in Vancouver has gathered no less than 20,000 downloads in its first five weeks, according to TikTok Ltd. CEO , Dorian Banks, a former Calgarian himself.

“We’ve been receiving calls and inquiries from Calgary businesses and interested users, almost since day one,” he said. “They understand the value and virility TikTok can offer, so Calgary as our next market just makes a lot of sense.”

Considered by many to be the ‘anti-Groupon’, TikTok has gained popularity for offering free, time-sensitive deals, geo-targeted to your location.

Local businesses are able to push out free and time-sensitive offers during slow periods and within minutes the freebie is sent to interested users in the area through their iPhone or Android device.

TikTok offers a completely free platform to control and drive in-store traffic for when business is slow. There is a small fee to use the app’s advance targetting interface.

Businesses have the freedom to choose how many free offers they push out and the desired length of time of each free offer. Offers are valid for one to 24 hours. The application provides businesses with free brand exposure to new and old clientele and promises immediate consumer traffic.

While Groupon takes a percentage of users sales, businesses using TikTok keep 100 per cent of the return or revenue earned from consumer traffic brought in by the application.

Throughout the summer TikTok will be offering Calgary users free deals, including a free chicken taco from Los Chilitos or a free cupcake from Buttercream Bake Shoppe, and actively helping other businesses drive store traffic when they are slow.
