Amazon brings latest tablet offering to Canada with Kindle Fire HD

Provided

Amazon.ca’s latest tablet, the Kindle Fire HD, is now available for pre-order in Canada – and it also comes at a nifty price tag, starting at less than $300.

Coming in at either 7 inches or 8.9 inches, the Kindle Fire HD runs on Android and includes a front-facing HD camera, access to email and a calendar, and access to many games, apps and books. Amazon also has millions of books available for download. Both devices come with either 16 gigabytes (GB) or 32 GB of on-device storage, as well as access to Amazon Cloud.

The 8.9 inch model features 254 pixels per inch with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, with Amazon touting its pixels as “indistinguishable to the human eye.” It includes a 1.5 Ghz OMAP4 4470 dual-core processor. The 7 inch version comes with a 1280 x 800 resolution, as well as a 1.2 Ghz OMAP4 4460 dual-core processor. Both use an Advanced True Wide polarizing filter so the displays have the same contrast and colour when viewed from any angle.

The 7-inch version is priced at $214 and up, while the 8.9 inch offering starts at $284.

While the Kindle Fire HD was already available in the U.S. and some European countries, customers can now pre-order it in more than 170 countries. It will start shipping on June 13.

Canadian customers can also pick up the tablet at retailers such as The Source and Staples.
