Nominee: XCEL Professional Services Ltd. from Calgary, Alberta
Describe the solution, service or initiative
XCEL designed a backup solution which would provide hourly data backups and ability to perform rapid recoveries should disaster strike our client, lessening the impact of lost productivity and lost data.
What makes it original or innovative?
Most backup solutions provide daily backups with recovery limited to requiring replaced hardware and slower recovery times. Our solution will minimize data loss to 1 hour, and recovery time reduced to a total network recovery (9 virtual servers) within an hour.
Describe the improvement this solution made to the customer’s sales or revenues and provide measurable evidence of such.
There were no measurable improvements in sales or revenues to the client.
Describe the improvement that was made to the customers efficiency, with measurable evidence.
The client was able to recover quickly as was tested during a physical failure of the SAN on the network during which we were able to perform a complete network recovery within 1 hour allowing staff to get back to work quickly and continue services their own clients.
How did the solution improve the customer’s ability to serve internal or external clients?
During times of failure, the business is able to re surge quickly and continue servicing clients with minimal delays or missed delivery timelines.
In what ways does the solution go above and beyond industry expectations?
The industry norm is to perform backups nightly and have them available for a slightly arduous recovery procedure. This allows a simple method of recovery from any hourly backup performed over the previous few weeks. Most clients expectations require a recovery within 1 day of a complete failure, whereas this solution allows for us to perform recovery within an hour.
How does the solution further your customer’s green or environmentally friendly plans?
It has had no impact on the green or environmentally friendly plans.
