Turning your dreams of a digital Shangri-La into reality isn’t the prerogative of the wealthy or the nerdy, according to Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP).

Today, designing a smart home – or home-office if you will – is a project well within the reach of middling middleclass mortals – even those with minimal tech savvy, the company suggests.

And to spread that message, HP recently took journalists from across the world on a tour of its Smart Home in Cupertino, Calif. Here is a video of the HP Smart Home Tour.

The technologies and systems demoed during that tour are available today to the average Joe and Jane, suggested Karen Reynolds, an executive communications manager with HP – who was our “HP Smart Home” tour guide.
