Northwest Performance Software announces the release of Switch Port Mapping Tool 1.4
Northwest Performance Software Inc. announced the release of Managed Switch Port Mapping Tool 1.4, a software tool designed to map managed network switch physical port connections to MAC addresses and with additional queries, the IPv4 addresses of attached network devices. This tool is intended for use by network administrators and other specialists who maintain managed switches. The program uses SNMP v1/v2c to communicate with any SNMP-enabled switch and presents the switch mapping results in a spreadsheet-like grid.

Previous version users will immediately notice a significant increase in speed of the tool both in results retrieval and in the port enabling/disabling command. This version maintains row height when column sorting and has improved readability such as when a single MAC address is assigned multiple IP addresses. There is now updated error reporting with suggestions for the user and the help file has been enhanced with a new troubleshooting section.

Managed Switch Port Mapping Tool is available from the NetScanTools.com Web site. The price is US$199 for a single user licence as a standalone product, or US$99 as an add-on to NetScanTools Pro 10. An evaluation copy is also available from the site.

Scalable Design releases Mftp file distribution solution
Scalable Design has released version 1.0 of Mftp, a multi-platform software application that gives users the ability to distribute files using existing PCs and servers.

Unlike all TCP-based solutions, Mftp transfers do not slow down when traversing long distance, long round-trip time paths. This leads to faster delivery versus FTP/HTTP. For example, Mftp transfers at 16 times the speed of FTP/HTTP over a network path with a 100 millisecond round-trip-time.

Mftp runs on Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP, Linux, FreeBSD/NetBSD/OpenBSD and Sun Solaris. The Mftp registration fee is US$149 and is available from the company’s site.

MGE reduces the entry cost to scalable power protection with Pulsar MX 5000 RT UPS
MGE UPS SYSTEMS has launched the first building block in its Pulsar MX Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system that is scaleable from 5kVA to 20kVA. Resellers integrating application servers, VoIP, storage networks and high-density rack systems can take advantage of the solution to protecting their growing computer networks.

Designed to deliver protection for 20 to 110 servers, the online double-conversion Pulsar MX UPS uses modular redundant architecture that can scale power and runtime as demand increases or when users require higher levels of availability. Using 3U (5.25 inch high) for the combination of power and battery sub-modules, users can configure the new units as freestanding tower or rack-mounted systems. When connected in parallel within the Pulsar Frame modular chassis (to be introduced in the Fall of ’06), the Pulsar MX sub-modules can be readily scaled to 10, 15 (with redundancy) or 20kVA power levels without disrupting connected equipment, all within the Pulsar’s compact 16U frame.

Available now, suggested end user price starts at $4,604. Through MGE’s PowerServices, the UPS is protected by a two-year guarantee, including the batteries. The Pulsar MX 5000 RT meets standards for safety and performance including UL and cUL and holds the CE mark for overseas markets.
