Fluke’s EtherScope Series II offers first response tools
Fluke Networks Canada launched the EtherScope Series II Network Assistant. This tool provides vision into twisted pair, fibre optic and wireless LANs, designed for network professionals who are first responders and for everyday network problems. New to the product are Gigabit fibre connections, 802.1X authentication, a connection log and enhanced Power over Ethernet (PoE) verification.

EtherScope Series II connects to both fibre optic and twisted pair networks for vision into mixed-medium networks. An SFP cage accepts optional 1000BASE-SX/ LX/ZX optical transceivers, alongside a permanent full-duplex 10/100/1000 twisted pair RJ-45 interface. Problems with the client-network connection process are seen and diagnosed via EtherScope’s Connection Log. Users can troubleshoot the cause of 802.1X security authentication problems (more than 10 EAP types). The Connection Log is also designed to troubleshoot dynamic addressing (DHCP IP) and WLAN association problems.

EtherScope Series II assists in the diagnosis and repair of PoE systems. By emulating a powered device (PD), it can solicit and measure DC voltage on each pin. According to Fluke, this eliminates the need for a separate PoE detector, further reducing the number of tools the technician must have on hand.

The new EtherScope Series II Network Assistant is available from Fluke Networks’ channel, with an MSRP starting at $5,999.00.

MGE UPS Systems releases RemotePowerMonitoring Service
MGE UPS Systems announced the release of the RemotePowerMonitoring service that automatically monitors a customer’s MGE 3-phase Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems around the clock. Any power disturbance or irregularity is recognized and reported to the MGE customer care centre.

RemotePowerMonitoring service provides real-time notification of UPS anomalies and equipment status to the central station at MGE customer care centre. This solution looks for communication faults, battery levels, battery discharge, battery end-of-life, load-on-bypass, alarm conditions, inverter-on-battery and internal microprocessor condition. The MGE customer care technicians observe and analyze the condition of the UPS system in real-time. When a fault is detected, a notification of the specific problem is sent by fax, e-mail or pager to one of 150 MGE factory field engineers.
