Nowadays, analysis can be applied to those stats that will influence the careers of players – everything from preventing injuries to renegotiating contracts.

The Major League Baseball Players Association, the collective bargaining representative for all Major League baseball players, is now using IBM Cognos TM1 Executive Viewer software to analyze, compare and project player stats in real time, as well as chart players’ progress.

A starting pitcher can rank, sort, and compare career stats against other starting pitchers, for example, as well as project future performance.

The software allows end-users – without any IT involvement – to create their own metrics directly through a point-and-click interface, which can help showcase a player’s contribution to the team.
