SMC announces metro edge managed switch
SMC Networks announced its TigerAccess series of switches for Metro Edge networking, the SMC7824M/FSW. Priced to bring Fibre to the Home for bandwidth and speed at under US$200 per port, the SMC7824M/FSW is available now to ISP’s and Integrators.

This fibre-optic standalone 100BASE-BX Metro Edge Managed switch supports as many as four Gigabit uplinks for even more high-bandwidth communication. The SMC7824M/FSW delivers 100BASE-BX single-strand fibre Ethernet connectivity for direct, high-speed connections to the service provider network. And the unit also includes two removable power supplies and a removable fan tray.

The SMC7824M/FSW’s advanced features include QoS with eight levels of priority, weighted fair-queuing and L2/3/4 IP to ensure smooth transmission of critical data. VLANs based on frame tags or ports, support for automatic GVRP LAN registration and spanning tree per VLAN provide security and bandwidth efficiency. Security is further enhanced with support for RADIUS, IEEE802.1x, SSH, SSL, TACACS+ and ACL. It also features 24 100Mbps single strand fiber (BX) ports, two 1000BASE-T RJ45 ports and two Gigabit combo (RJ-45/SFP) uplinks.

Entensys releases UserGate 4.1 with VPN support

Entensys releases version 4.1 of UserGate, an Internet security server.

One of the improvements in this version is including support of VPN and ICMP protocols, which ensures the privacy and integrity of the information transmitted. It also enables users to check the accessibility of a server on the Internet and also to define packet routing.

One of the features implemented in UserGate 4.1 is an Authorization Client, which you can use to view your account status and the amount of sent/received traffic. Additionally, UserGate Administrator now includes a monitor that provides real-time tracking of network and processor loads. This version also includes a HTTP Authorization for separate traffic accounting for users working from a terminal server.

UserGate 4.1 has a Cache Explorer module included as well as other interface enhancements.

EAST Technologies launches DisposeSecure 2007 Enterprise
EAST Technologies has released East-Tec DisposeSecure 2007 Enterprise, a software application that removes data from hard drives or disk partitions before return of leased assets or computer disposal.

The release adds network support that will cut corporate users’ work loads when securing their computers. DisposeSecure 2007 Enterprise runs over the network. Simply install the program on a server, network boot all of the computers that you want to erase, and the program will remove all data from the hard drives. You can create filters to select computers by MAC address. All sanitizing logs from all machines are sent to the server.

East-Tec DisposeSecure 2007 Enterprise removes all traces of software and data from the computer hard disk, by overwriting and destroying every sector and every bit of information.
