Shopify, Mitel and Halogen top customer satisfaction survey of Ontario’s business tech sector

G2 Crowd, a business software review platform, has aggregated reviews of more than 80 technology products with corporate headquarters in Ontario and determined that Shopify, Mitel Unified Communications, and Halogen Software lead the province in customer satisfaction.

There were 18 business technology software products that had enough data to make the first “G2 Crowd Ontario Gridscape” which divides companies into leaders, high-performers, contenders, and niche providers.

Shopify, Mitel, and Halogen, the three leading companies in the Gridscape had high ratings from the G2 Crowd community and other online sources, as well as substantial scale, market share, and global support and service resources.

The nine high performers were highly rated by their users but don’t have the market share and scale of the three leaders. These include Influitive, Maropost, InfoFlo Software, gShift, Nexonia Expenses, DemandTools, NewPath Consulting, FreshBooks, and Panorama Necto.

Waterloo-based OpenText ECM was a “contender” because it has a significant market presence but not enough user ratings to validate its products. Niche products had high customer satisfaction but small market presence including Eclipse, Asigra Cloud Backup, MarketWired, Sysomos, and Xinet.

Before profiling Ontario’s business tech landscape, G2 Crowd had produced Gridscape profiles of Chicago and Massachusetts.

G2 Crowd noted that Ontario provided several benefits for technology companies such as top-rated graduates from the University of Waterloo, a pool of talent from companies like BlackBerry, and a nurturing community for technology start-ups. Ottawa and Toronto, in particular, benefit from coding clubs, co-working spaces and robust mentorship opportunities.

Additionally, early stage investment in Ontario startups and government incentives should help place the province’s tech companies in a good position to satisfy consumers.
