Ruggedized retail

Ruggedized, with new Windows OS

Intermec Technologies Corp. will incorporate Windows Mobile 5.0 software for Pocket PC into its CN30 and CK60 rugged mobile computers. The CK60, Intermec’s most rugged mobile computer, is designed

for the direct store delivery (DSD) market. The CN30 mobile computer lets users easily build the device they need for their retail store management and operations applications. It offers a full-screen, 640 x 480 pixel, high-resolution VGA color display. Windows Mobile 5.0’s support for soft keys allows better navigation within applications without use of a stylus.

Store and save

The AMCC StorSave Platform, for Applied Micro Circuits Corp.‘s line of 3ware 9000 Series RAID controllers, combines firmware and a Battery Backup Unit. It supplies power to the cache memory module in the event of a system power loss, and includes proprietary features that use a wire journaling technique. Able to handle SATA RAID, it allows the controller to use a drive’s write caching, while preventing data loss in the event of system power failure. When fully charged, the battery can preserve the content for up to 72 hours.

I/O acceleration
The RamSan 120 solid state disk (SSD) from Texas Memory Systems, is designed for Fibre-Channel-based acceleration of Oracle, SQL, Video, e-Commerce and other I/O-intensive applications. It provides over 70,000 random I/Os per second, with up to 400 MBps random sustained throughput. According to the company, with access times as low as 20 microseconds, the RamSan 120 is 200 times faster than the fastest disk-based storage solution available today.

Projected savings

Canon‘s LV-7230 and LV-S4 multimedia projectors are designed with the budget-conscious user in mind. The LV-7230 includes a 1.6x optical zoom lens that can display a 254 cm diagonal image from 2.5 metres away, making it ideal for presenting to groups in small spaces. It weighs 2.9 kg, features 2000 ANSI Lumens and delivers native XGA resolution image quality. The LV-S4 projector combines a compact, lightweight housing with an affordable price, weighs 2.3 kg, features 1500 ANSI Lumens and delivers SVGA resolution images.
