Nortel extends WLAN offering

Networking
Nortel launches security and location solutions
Nortel unveiled wireless LAN (WLAN) capabilities and solutions that enable business to use their existing WLAN network to deploy advanced enterprise applications such as location tracking, advanced security solutions and voice over the WLAN network.

The voice capabilities on the Nortel Wireless LAN 2300 Series will ensure that voice quality is maintained in the presence of other wireless traffic and will allow customers to optimize the performance of mobile devices that will also be adopting the standard. This includes the Nortel WLAN Handset 6100 Series, planned for availability in 2Q07. These premise-based WLAN handsets are planned to integrate with Nortel’s enterprise VoIP and WLAN platforms and provide the flexibility of 802.11 a/b/g support.

Nortel’s Asset Tracking and Management solution enables businesses to use their WLAN network to provide real-time location and tracking of up to 10,000 individual assets or people with a location accuracy of one to three meters. The solution combines the Nortel WLAN 2300 Series with Ekahau real-time location system, enabling the use of RF tags that determine their location by interacting with Nortel WLAN 2300 Series access points.

Nortel’s Wireless Intrusion Detection and Prevention (WIPS) solution gives customers an optional advanced WIPS security upgrade. The solution uses WIPS technology from AirDefense to allow Nortel WLAN customers to turn WLAN 2300 Series access points into security sensors that can identify and protect the enterprise network against over 230 different types of threats that can target the wireless network. The solution also provides security policy management and enforcement, and scales from a single office to hundreds of locations.

The complete solutions are available now through Nortel and Nortel’s value-added resellers and integrators.

Agilent introduces in-circuit vectoreless test techniques

Agilent Technologies Inc. introduced Agilent Medalist VTEP v2.0, a suite of vectorless test techniques that includes the Network Parameter Measurement technology.

Agilent’s VTEP v2.0 is designed to help manufacturers detect the critical defects, which could escape detection right through functional test and product shipment.

Also with VTEP v2.0, users get the benefit of the original VTEP technology, which has higher sensitivities and better noise reduction, as well as iVTEP, which is targeted at integrated circuit packages with minimal frames. iVTEP also works for devices with heat-spreaders and even those with attached heat-sinks.

Agilent is also introducing the Medalist i3070 in-circuit test system for printed circuit board assembly. For more on the Medalist i3070, see www.agilent.com/about/newsroom/presrel/2007/20feb-em07014.html.

For more information, please visit www.agilent.com/see/vtep.

Agilent VTEP v2.0 is available at no additional cost on all Agilent Medalist i3070 systems, which will begin shipping March 2007, and is also available free-of-charge to existing Agilent ICT customers on software upgrade contract.

Storage
HP introduces StorageWorks D2D Backup System
HP introduced a disk-based backup and recovery system.

The HP StorageWorks D2D Backup System automates and centralizes backup to provide data protection for up to four servers in a single device.

HP D2D Backup System features an iSCSI interface that plugs into a standard Ethernet network and a setup wizard that allows customers to configure the device.

Consolidating backups onto a single disk-based system eliminates the need for multiple direct-attached backup devices and the associated management overhead. Additionally, browser-based management allows customers to monitor their HP D2D Backup System from anywhere on the network, at any time.

The HP D2D Backup System is also available as a discounted bundle that includes the HP Data Protector Express Software Kit. The bundle provides customers with a complete data protection solution that supports fully automatic daily backup of four servers.

The HP StorageWorks D2D Backup System is available now and will be sold primarily through HP’s extensive network of more than 145,000 channel resellers worldwide.

More information about the HP StorageWorks D2D Backup System is available at www.hp.com/go/d2d-backup, or view a video presentation.
