SMBs get intrusion prevention

McAfee Inc.‘s IntruShield 1400 IPS sensor is designed to proactively protect small and medium-sized businesses, individual branches and enterprise perimeter deployments from all types of

network security threats. The new product’s capabilities include performance up to 200 Mbps, four 10/100 fast Ethernet detection ports, remote Web-based management, detection and blocking of a broad range of peer-to-peer traffic – such as KaZaa – and various instant messaging applications.

Best budget module better

Version 6 of Best Software‘s MIP Fund Accounting product line, which includes MIP Fund Accounting solutions for non-profit organizations and the MIP Government Series, has been enhanced. There are new customization options and improvements have been made to the report writer, including native PDF printing support. The budget module has been completely rewritten, now allowing creation of an unlimited number of budget scenarios, budget creation tools and new reporting options.

Creative pursuits

Allume Systems Inc., formerly Aladdin Systems, is shipping Creative Essentials, a collection of graphic design and animation tools. The suite includes CorelDRAW 11, Corel PHOTO-PAINT 11 and CorelTRACE 11, which converts scanned images or digital photographs to scaleable outlines, vector graphics or clip art. DAZ3D Bryce 5, a tool for creating 3D landscapes and models and Toon Boom Studio Express, a tool for creating animation, are also part of the suite. The Creative Essentials graphics bundle has a suggested street price of US$149.99.

It ain’t heavy, it’s from Brother

With a sleek design and convenient front-loading paper tray, the MFC-210c from Brother is designed for space-conscious environments. Features include black printing up to 20ppm, color printing up to 15ppm and photo-quality output with resolutions up to 6000 x 1200 dpi. The MFC-210c also offers borderless printing, flatbed color copying and color scanning, color fax and PC faxing (send only). The MFC-210c is available at major office supply retailers at a suggested price of $269.99.

Brightmail going into service

MessageLabs is incorporating Symantec’s Brightmail Anti-Spam technology into the MessageLabs Anti-Spam Service. Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam 6.0 combats spam using 17 filters, and includes non-English language filters, reputation filtering, signatures, URL filters and call-to-action rules. MessageLabs uses multi-layered technology to combat email threats. MessageLabs expects to deliver the new joint Anti-Spam Service to market in Q4 2004.
