Latest Sophos security releases target Android malware, Dropbox files

Sophos has released a new free anti-virus app for Android devices.

As explained in our source story from Network World, theapp scans formalicious apps and malware on Android devices. In November it will beintegrated into Sophos’ mobile device management software, SophosMobile Control. It’s also available on a stand-alone basis from GooglePlay.

Sophos has also come out with Android and iOS apps to encrypt filesheld in the cloud-based Dropbox storage system. Those apps will work inconjunction with Sophos’ SafeGuard Enterprise, which makes sure filesstored in cloud-based systems are encrypted.

It’s been a tough week for Sophos. The company is still working througha backlog of customer complaints and queries after one of its anti-virusupdates falsely detected certain malware on Windows-basedcomputers. The company has issued a mea culpa to its customers andpartners for the gaffe, saying it has never experienced an incident ofsuch magnitudein its 25-year history.
