iPhone app gives DDoS alerts

Customers of data centre provider ControlCircle are being offered a free smartphone app that can alert them to serious issues such as ongoing DDoS attacks in real time.

ControlCircle describes Max2Go as a mobile tool but to smartphone users it will be just another iPhone application with a critical difference. Most smartphone apps are for play but this one is very much for business, capturing a snapshot of a range of server statistics such as uptime, power and connectivity.

It can also handle alerts for patching requirements and warranties and be used to issue ticketing requests to ControlCircle itself.

However, the company is pitching the tool as a major advantage in dealing with DDoS attacks, the bane of any server owners professional life but not always a threat that can be monitored as it happens. Owners are usually phoned up and asked to study the situation through a web portal or to issue instructions over the phone.

Its all about mobility and giving optimal control to the user. If an organisation suffered a prolonged DDoS assault to its systems Max2Go is able to present information to you wherever you happen to be allowing you to act on any fast-moving or developing situation, promised ControlCircle CEO, Damian Milkins.

Actually dealing with the problem still requires conventional direction but perhaps in the fullness of time, such apps will be secure enough to allow some remote control and remediation. The company currently offers two levels of DDoS monitoring, traffic monitoring and application monitoring.

The software is iPhone from day one but versions are promised for Android and BlackBerry in the near future. Max2Go will appear in the Apple App Store soon, the company said.

DDoS defence comes from a partnership with Adversor, which uses a blend of technologies from Arbor Networks, Cisco and Juniper, to which is added proprietary algorithms.
