Horoscope: Software licensing gets tricky, Libra

Chris Tilbal is not a certified astrologer; he’s just a guy who sometimes gets a vibe. The horoscope will appear on the last Friday of every month.

ARIES (March 21-April 20): Don’t blame others for a project that’s fallen behind. CIOs know how to delegate: so should

you. A risky product demo goes unexpectedly well.

TAURUS (April 21-May 21): No one ever said hardware upgrades were easy. Check the printer drivers one more time before calling for technical support. A recently discovered Web site causes distractions.

GEMINI (May 22-June 21): It may be time to revisit the role of open source in your enterprise. This is a great time to hunker down and make key decisions; just stick with them this time and hold your ground against opposition from above. You can never have too many extra power cords.

CANCER (June 22-July 22): Security concerns complicate a customer-facing initiative. Finally, a subordinate manages to carry his or her own weight. Seek partnership before one is forced upon you.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 23): Rehearse thoroughly for a presentation and you cannot fail. A peer becomes an unwelcome participant on a steering committee; remain professional above all else. Storage strategy has gaping holes.

VIRGO (Aug. 24-Sept. 22): Prolonged system crash leaves everyone grumpy. Focus on what you can control and ignore all else. Wireless solution may tantalize, but is it really a value-add? A colleague makes unexpected confession.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23): Software licensing renewal proves a convoluted process. Co-workers make touching display of team spirit that lifts your spirits. A public sector opportunity beckons.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 22): You have an innovative idea and it’s time to share it before a project gets underway. Remote monitoring solution becomes more critical than ever. A service level agreement is not what it seems.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 23-Dec. 21): File conversions will never be completed on time. Ignore outsourcing gossip and prove you can handle the workload yourself. Too many training seminars, too little time.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 20): Breakthrough as a user finally “”gets it.”” Request-for proposal misses key element; insist that your voice be heard. ALT/CTRL/DELETE doesn’t solve everything, and you know it.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 21-Feb. 18): A desktop refresh comes due. Worrying over an expensive programming error is not going to make it go away; learn and move on. Relationship with a customer has never looked better.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): It’s a people problem, not a technology problem, and you can’t upgrade the people. Cell phone purchase becomes irresistible. Back up and restore, back up and restore.
