Cost still main barrier for SMB BI adoption

Cost remains a major barrier to business intelligence (BI) adoption for the majority of Canadian small and medium sized businesses (SMBs), according to several tech industry experts.

The cost factor hits SMB operators two ways, according to Warren Shiau, lead analyst for Toronto’s Strategic Counsel IT research firm. Shiau was among a panel of BI specialists and users who spoke at during an online briefing that marked the launch of Microsoft’s SQL Server 2008 R2. The SQL Server 2008 R2 is the new version of the software company’s relational database management system.
