PIKA adds support for PrimeNet t1/E1 Gateway board

PIKA Technologies Inc. announced the release of a version of its PIKA Connect for Asterisk software package. This release allows Asterisk users to take advantage of the DSP-quality software-based echo cancellation offered by PIKA’s PrimeNet T1/E1 Gateway board and PIKA Connect for Asterisk software.

Providing support for up to four T1/E1 spans, this 5.3-inch PCI card was specially designed and optimized to work with PIKA’s patent-pending AllOnHost media processing software technology. The number of spans the board supports is field upgradeable; if a single span board is initially purchased, it can be expanded to a dual, triple or quad with the purchase of a software licence. Installation is as simple as downloading and installing the PIKA channel driver for Asterisk with the AllOnHost media processing software and plugging in the board. A PCIe version of this card, offering the same features and benefits, will be available later this year.

PIKA Connect for Asterisk is a channel driver distributed under the GNU Public Licence. PIKA’s prior version provided Asterisk interoperability with its high-density, four- to 24-port analog boards and low density, one- to four-port analog boards, as well as with Skype. This version adds interoperability with PIKA’s T1/E1 Digital Gateway board.

Samsung delivers new storage device
Samsung Electronics Ltd. has introduced the 1.8-inch hard drive with a 60GB per disk capacity and a super-slim form factor that is just 5-millimeters tall. Samsung’s sleek 1.8-inch N-series features 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 60GB per disk capacities. Samsung’s 1.8-inch N-series is currently shipping.

Samsung’s 60GB 1.8-inch hard disk can store data equivalent to 60 135-minute movies, 1,500 40MB music videos or 15,000 4MB MP3 music files. Samsung’s 1.8-inch N-series hard disk drives are available in both internal and external HDD type.

Samsung’s 1.8-inch hard drives are quiet with 1.8 Bel, a measurement of sound. In addition, the N-series features ultra-low power consumption that is .3 watts in low power idle.

Samsung’s N-series utilize PMR technology to achieve such a high level of storage capacity per disk. PMR technology places the data bits perpendicular to the disc, which reduces the corruption factor. In addition, by placing the data bits standing on end, more data can fit onto a disc, allowing for greater storage capacity.

Samsung’s 1.8-inch drives feature an ultra low power mobile SoC, shock sensor and free fall senor which is optional. All are equipped with a 4,200-rpm spindle speed, 7.14-millisecond average seek time and a 2MB data buffer.
