New, lower-cost models of EMC Corp.’s Celerra network attached storage (NAS) systems are designed to provide improved application connectivity via iSCSI, as well as enhanced management capabilities. The Celerra NS500 system, available in an integrated

or gateway configuration, is an entry point into the Celerra NAS line. The NS500 system has a list price of US$40,000 for a 1TB single data mover, integrated configuration, with CIFS (network protocol) and EMC SnapSure software.

Multifunction does a runner

Canon Canada.’s latest multifunctional imaging device, the Color imageRunner C3220, features a four-drum, single-pass engine that achieves speeds up to 32 pages-per-minute (ppm) for both colour and monochrome output. The device has up to 2400 equivalent x 600-dpi output resolution, dual 250 MHz processors, a 40GB hard disk drive, and 1GB of RAM. It is available in two configurations: the C3220, which ships standard with the C3220 Base Printer; and the Color imageRunner C3220 Copier model, which ships standard with the C3220 Base Printer plus a full colour scanner for advanced digital copying and scan-to-mailbox capabilities.

Employers can be Big Brother

ContentWatch Inc.’s upgraded suite for small businesses and organizations, ContentProtect Professional 1.8, includes an advanced timing control feature that allows employers to restrict Internet access to specified times, day or night. Employers can also manage and control web access, spam, instant messaging, peer-to-peer networking and pop-ups. Administrators get access to a logging and reporting option for each user account, so they can view activity on a group or an individual basis. The software is available through ContentWatch’s web site. A 30-day free trial is available.

Dual threat

Fujitsu Canada has introduced the Fujitsu fi-5650C colour scanner with an automatic document feeder (ADF). Along with its 200-page ADF, the Fujitsu fi-5650C scanner incorporates dual-control panels, for left- or right-handed scanning flexibility. The fi-5650C flatbed production scanner measures 11.5 in. x 25.2 in. x 16.9 in. and has colour, monochrome and landscape scanning capabilities. Additionally, the scanner includes ultrasonic double-feed detection technology, a 300-page exit stacker and a daily duty cycle of up to 8,000 pages. The scanner has TWAIN and ISIS drivers and Adobe Acrobat 6.0. Pricing starts at $7,995.

Sybase counts itself part of Business One

Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE), Sybase Inc.’s relational database management system (RDBMS), is now integrated with SAP Business One 2004, SAP’s business management solution for small and midsized businesses (SMBs). Sybase ASE provides SMBs with a platform for data and transaction processing. Sybase ASE includes built-in self-management and self-tuning tools, wizards to automate routine tasks, advanced XML and Web services support. By more efficiently managing information, SMBs should be better able to get the right information to the right place at the right time.
