Telus enters enterprise cloud game

Telus has launched its first cloud offering aimed at the enterprise market but isn’t confining it to any specific size of business customer.

Telus says its new AgilIT VirtualPrivate Cloud is tailored forbusinesses of all sizes so they can have around-the-clock on-demandaccess to view and manage their own cloud through a centralizedinfrastructure.

The flexibility of the service is one of the prime features beingtouted by Telus because it allows companies to tailor their computinguse and scale as their needs change, the company says.

“(Users have) the flexibility to create, change or suspend theircomputing jobs as required through a centralized view of their cloudinfrastructure,” said Tony Krueck, vice-president of business productsand services at Telus, in a news release.

Telus partnered with AMD, NetApp, VMWare and Xsigo to build out theservice. The company already has about 250,000 SMB customers and 1,600larger enterprise clients for its existing computing and mobilecommunications offerings. That’s a tiny portion of its overallcustomer base, which includes 7.3 million wireless subscribers, 3.6million landline accounts and 1.3 million Internet service clients.

Many of Canada’s major telecom companies are getting into the cloudservices game. Rogers Communications Inc. targetsits Rogers Hosted IPVoice solution to the SMB market while Bell Canada offers a variety ofenterprise services through its Bell Cloud solutions lineup.
