Express IT: When will you own a 3D printer?

You might not own a 3D printer yet, but it probably won’t be too long before its affordable enough that you’ll spring for one on an impulse purchase one day at Best Buy.

Printers that take 3D blueprints and render them into physical, colourful objects with moving parts are now hitting the consumer market. They’re not cheap, but the prices are about on par with inkjet printers when they first hit the market in the late 1980s, when you take inflation into account. What does the 3D printing market mean for our wider economy? We take a couple of guesses in this latest episode of Express IT.
