HP will enter the android tablet and smartphone market: report

According to a report from website ReadWrite.com, Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HPQ) is planning to launch a line of Android-based tablets and possibly even a smartphone.

According to the report, on which HP has declined to comment, the HP Android tablet would be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4 chip. An Android smartphone is also said to be under consideration.

HP has been cautious about dipping its feet back into the smartphone and tablet market after its TouchPad, based on the webOS platform it acquired when it bought Palm, debuted two years ago to lacklusture reviews. The vendor quickly exited the market and hasn’t been in a large hurry to re-enter it, although it had dipped its toe in with select Windows 8-based devices targeted at a professional market.

With HP holding its global partner conference the week of February 18th in Las Vegas, we’ll watch for further indications of HP’s plans in the mobility space.
