Symantec picks a newcomer as new Canadian manager

Symantec Canada has a new leader with Sean Forkan taking the helm as area vice-president and country manager, CDN has learned.

Forkan joins the security vendor from a brief stay at Oracle Corp. as area vice-president and a decade-long career with Cisco Systems Inc., where he began as a major account manager and eventually set strategy for their joint Accenture-Cisco executive team.

He has also worked at Crowntek Business Centres and SHL Computer Innovations.

Symantec’s country manager position was left vacant last October when Michael Murphy departed the vendor after a 16 year tenure. His responsibilities since then have been taken over by Brett Shirk, Symantec’s vice-president of sales for the eastern region, based in Detroit. It was originally unclear whether Symantec would give Skirk the responsibility on a permanent basis, or seek a new dedicated country lead for Canada.

Forkan is a graduate of McMaster University in engineering and management and is based in Toronto.
