Jurgen Klinsmann has an obsession with making elaborate PowerPoint strategy demonstrations to players, requiring thousands of pounds worth of PCs and laptops, according to his former club.
Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness said it had been an expensive decision to employ Klinsmann as manager in 2008, but not because of player costs.
“We had to buy computers for thousands of Euros,” he told Bavarian newspaper Donaukurier. “We conducted team meetings with a PowerPoint presentation … he showed the professionals on an epic scale how we wanted to play.” He said this method did not deliver results.
Hoeness insisted that under current manager Jupp Heynckes, it was much cheaper. “Heynckes has a flip chart and five Edding pens. That costs 2.50. He writes on a board about how the opponents line up and says a few words about them.”
Klinsmann was appointed US soccer team coach in July.
