CDN Top 100 Solution Providers make a comeback

Toronto – After two flat years from the CDN Top 100 Solution Providers the Canadian channel roared back to prominence in 2010 by posting a 6.2 per cent overall growth rate.

The combined revenue from the Top 100 Solution Providers was more than $5.6 billion dollars.

Softchoice, with close to half a billion dollars in Canadian revenue, was named the No. 1 Solution Provider. It’s the company’s sixth straight win and according to Eric Gardiner of Softchoice winning the Top 100 never gets old and it’s always an honour for the company and its employees.

The biggest surprise of the evening was MetaFore finishing in second place and xWave, now Bell –xWave moving all the way down from second to fifth.

MetaFore placed No. 4 on the CDN’s Top 100 list last year. After an acquisition that saw the company merge its three main organizations into one stronger, national unit, the bet paid off. MetaFore leveraged its unique regional management model that includes a large presence in Western, Central and Eastern Canada to move further up the rankings.

CDW Canada for the first time entered the Top 5 rankings. The company started operations in Canada in 2005 and has one of the quickest climbs up the Top 100 list on record.

There were not as many newcomers as last year. The 2009 list, presented in 2010, had a whopping 14 new solution providers. What the current list lacked in quantity it sure made up in quality as Dimension Data Canada, Xbase Technologies, Ideaca Knowledge Services, CyberPlex, Blair Technologies and Encore Business Solutions cracked the top 100.

The best performing newcomer award was presented to Dimension Data Canada. Dimension Data has its roots in South Africa. They entered the Canadian market a little over three years ago to much fanfare. The global solution provider claims to have a simple vision: “To Do Great Thing”. With that philosophy the company has become a leader in the provisioning and management of IT infrastructure services and solutions.

Compugen on the strength of its Green4Good program and its brand new 120,000 sq. ft. facility came in third.

The Fastest Riser was the Channel Elite Awards Solution Provider of the Year IT Weapons who rose 13 spots from last year.

At this year’s Top 100 CDN also wanted to feature two smaller solution providers. CDN recognized a company with 10 employees or less and another with 25 employees or less with awards.

The winner of the Small Solution Provider award was FoxNet Solutions Inc. of Waterloo, Ont., while Ottawa’s Stoneworks Technologies captured the Mid-size prize in the new category.

More than 250 people from solution provider organizations across Canada attended the annual event held at the Paramount Conference and Event Venue in North Toronto.
