iPhone 5? You might be waiting till 2012
The Register
Team Register provides details about Apple’s iPhone 5.

“Apple fans may have to wait till next year before they can junk their iPhone 4s in favour of iPhone the Fifth. Analyst firm Avian Securities said that production of the iPhone 5 won’t begin till September, meaning a holiday launch at the earliest, or even a New Year’s debut. The note, reported in Business Insider, is based on chats with key component suppliers, which support a consensus view that launch will be either a late 2011 or early 2012 event.”

Apple to dominate tablet biz through 2015

Tony Smith shares Gartner forecasts on future smartphone market share.

“Apple’s iOS may be forecast to lose smartphone market share even to Microsoft’s Windows Phone, but it will remain the leader in the media tablet arena through to 2016. So suggests research house Gartner, which puts iOS’ share of the 2015 294.1M-unit market at 47.1 per cent. That’s an inevitable significant reduction on Apple’s 2010 market share of 83.9 per cent, but what will more than compensate the company for this loss is the gain in unit shipments. In 2015, Apple will ship 9.4 times as many iPads – 138.5M to 14.8M – as it did in 2010.”

Ben Parr shares some stats around which vendor currently owns the search market and how much of it.

“Microsoft has secured 30 per cent of the search market, largely at Google’s expense, according to data from Experian Hitwise. The new March numbers claim that Microsoft achieved 30.01 per cent of the U.S. search market share in March – 14.32 per cent from Bing.com and 15.69 per cent from Yahoo Search, which Bing now powers. The growth was pretty evenly distributed as well: Bing.com’s search market share grew by six per cent from February while Yahoo search grew by five per cent. Google, on the other hand, now controls 64.42 per cent of the U.S. search market, a decrease of three per cent from its 66.69 per cent share in February.”
