Rackspace rolls out services unit to push OpenStack cloud deployments

Larry Dignan provides details about a new services unit from Rackspace called Cloud Builders, which will deploy the company’s OpenStack operating system.

“OpenStack is Rackspace’s effort to be a platform. Cloud Builders is the combination of Rackspace’s support and the services operations of Anso Labs, a services outfit. OpenStack was launched last year in conjunction with NASA. In October, OpenStack got Microsoft Hyper-V support. With the move, Rackspace will offer training, certification and deployment services.”

“Here are seven questions you can ask when you discuss your potential BDR solution with providers: 1) How am I billed?, 2) What are the supported platforms?, 3) What type of backups does the solution perform?, 4) Where is the support team located and what are their hours?, 5) How can I sell the solution?, 6) How does the vendor you are going with differ from other backup solutions out there?, 7) Does your vendor sell directly to end-users or through the channel?”
