The Apple iPad is not a computer replacement, but a great companion

Matthew Miller writes about why Apple’s iPad may not be such a good PC replacement after all.
“I think there are many people who have basic computer needs like my mother-in-law, but for anyone else the current iPad will not be a good replacement for a computer. The iPhone OS does not currently support multitasking, this may change with OS 4.0, and I already see this as a bit of an issue as I try to do more than use the apps I have installed or surf the web. One example is that I would like to use Facebook chat in Safari and then jump out to do other things like email or play a game and then jump back into a conversation.”
Dell and Goodwill expand e-waste collection to great white north

Heather Clancy writes that Dell and Goodwill will be bringing the Reconnect program to some Canadian provinces.
“After collecting roughly 96 million pounds of electronic waste at locations in the United States, Dell and Goodwill Industries are teaming up with a Goodwill affiliate called Renaissance in order to extend the Reconnect program to locations in Southwestern Quebec and London, Ontario. There are currently about 1,900 locations.”
Android in 2013: Smartphones

Mark Murphy writes about the smartphone landscape and how it may be affected by Google Android.
“I am going to project that Android will wind up with 15-20 per cent of the U.S. market (and a similar percentage globally) in 2013, if it sticks to its current consumer focus. Android, though, is in better position to perhaps make a run at the enterprise than some of the others, so Android might wind up with more 2013 market share if it offers an enterprise flavor in 2010 or 2011.”
