Juniper strikes a deal with Websense

Websense Inc. (Nasdaq: WBSN) and Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) announced an expanded partnership which integrates Websense’s security solutions with Juniper’s SRX Series Services Gateways for use in data centre environments.

The expanded partnership integrates Websense’s Web Security Gateway solution and DLP technologies with Juniper’s lineup of SRX Series products.

Donald Meyer, senior product marketing manager for Juniper’s SRX line, said that while the SRX Services Gateway products already have security capabilities such as unified threat management (UTM) built-in, the gateways do not address content-specific or Web content security needs.

“Juniper and Websense have strengthened our relationship to help organizations lower their complexities and to consolidate enterprise security needs,” Meyer explained. “Now we can provide customers with best-of-breed Web content, DLP and a simplified security portfolio to help streamline security needs.”

The target customers for the SRX Gateway products are offices ranging from small branch office locations, all the way up to large data centre environments, Meyer said. Both vendors will also seek service providers to help deliver these solutions to market, he added.

Raymond Kruck, senior director of business development at Websense, said the integrated solution has been designed so that Websense’s Web security and DLP features and capabilities seamlessly integrate into Juniper’s SRX Services Gateways.

“The joint solution is easier for partners to design, implement and manage on an ongoing basis, which means more partner profitability,” Meyer explained. “This is a more robust solution for partners to be able to offer as a value-add to their customers.”

As a starting point, channel partners can have conversations with existing customers who already have data centre environments, or who are considering them, in addition to cloud computing or software-as-a-service type offerings, Kruck said.

“This is an opportunity for our joint partners to add in different delivery services and ongoing managed services as a way of achieving recurring revenue,” Kruck said. “Managed service providers can look at building out services where they either entirely (manage) or co-manage their customer’s infrastructure, and service providers can look at building out a full cloud environment and enforcement infrastructure.”

The solution is expandable and scalable so customers can pay for capacity, as their needs grow. By marrying two security solutions which combine network and content and Web security into one product, customers can save more money and time, Kruck said.

Steve Pataky, vice-president of worldwide channel development programs at Juniper, says that the two vendor’s interoperability work on the joint solutions are now “fairly complete,” so the companies will start rolling out the joint SRX solution “soon to initial customers.” General availability for the products are expected to start shipping within the next few weeks, Pataky said.
