Smartphone sales skyrocket

Tony Smith recaps smartphone shipments, according to Strategy Analytics.

“Smartphones shipments leapt 30 per cent year on year during Q4 2009 to 53 million units, well ahead of the 12 per cent growth seen by handsets as a whole. According to Strategy Analytics, the top three vendors all shipped considerably more smartphones during the quarter – and the year as a whole – while their other competitors combined experienced the exact opposite. Nokia, Research in Motion and Apple all achieved higher market shares in Q4 2009 than they did in Q4 2008. Nokia and RIM saw modest growth: from 37 per cent to 39.2 per cent for Nokia, and from 18.6 per cent to 20.2 per cent for RIM.”

Juniper’s Q4 might mean an upbeat Q2 for Cisco
Network World
Cisco Subnet discusses Cisco’s upcoming financial quarter earnings estimates.

“Juniper’s blow out Q4 may portend a stellar quarter from rival Cisco as well. Cisco reports next Tuesday and some analysts expect the company to come in ahead of estimates. Meanwhile, Juniper’s strength was due largely to service providers, sales in the Americas, and yes, some enterprise growth year-over-year – but sequentially, enterprise was essentially flat. AT&T was better than 10 per cent of Juniper’s sales in the quarter and sales to service providers grew 22 per cent sequentially.”

Social media and it’s impact on company image

Dan Kusnetzky offers his thoughts on social media and the impacts it has on business image.

“I had an interesting conversation with Nick Patience, a colleague at the 451 Group, about the impact an individual’s private blogging, tweeting, Facebook page and the like have on their employer’s reputation and image. We both came to the conclusion that the messages presented by an individual do have an impact on the image of their employer even if the person specifically states that the comments and opinions expressed are his/her own and not that of the company.”
