Storage software following hardware downwards

Chris Mellor writes about the storage software market, according to research firm, IDC.
“(IDC’s) report shows a 5.2 per cent decline in the first quarter of this year compared to a year ago. IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Storage Software Tracker reports revenues of $2.8 billion in the quarter, half that of the quarter’s storage hardware revenues which were down 18.2 per cent over the year. Storage software sales slowed but not that steeply. Symantec actually grew its revenues while all the storage hardware suppliers and a hardware-free CA saw declining storage software sales.”
Apple feels economic pinch, drops prices

Adrian Kingsley-Hughes writes that during Apple’s WorldWide Developer Conference, the company said it’s feeling economic pressures and as a result, has announced product price cuts.
“So far two price cuts have been announced: the new 17-inch MacBook Pro sees the price shaved by $300, starting at $2,499 and the revamped MacBook Air sees the price slashed by $700, prices now starting at $1,499.”
Samsung’s Omnia II / GT-I8000 leaks early?

“Spec-counters will want to listen in close ’cause the GT-I8000 comes packing a 3.7-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) AMOLED display with an8.1 megapixel camera lit by dual-LEDs capable of recording VGA video at 30fps.”
