Google caves to Apple on multitouch

Google Subnet writes about Apple’s multi-touch technology and where other vendors fit in.

“VentureBeat reports that Apple urged Google to avoid using the iPhone’s signature multi-touch technology in Google’s Android-based G1 phone, and that Google complied. If true, it makes Google seem pretty wimpy, especially in light of the fact that its Android phone was aiming to be a strong iPhone competitor. But now that Palm has unveiled its Pre, which makes ample use of multi-touch, Google’s decision actually looks pretty smart.”

Symantec takes on Mozy with cloud backup

Chris Mellor writes about Symantec’s new cloud service offering.

“Symantec is going to offer a cloud backup storage service for consumers, similar to the Mozy, Carbonite, and Spare Backup services. Symantec’s consumer cloud storage will be available from April 1, according to Janice Chaffin, the president of Symantec’s cloud division, as reported by Reuters.”

HP services go ala-carte to beat downturn

Vivian Yeo reports that HP has announced a new purchasing initiative directed at its end-users.

“The company unveiled Proactive Select on Tuesday, a new component in its strategy to help midsize and large businesses keep their systems and technology running. Under this initiative, customers purchase pre-defined levels of credits and customize the services they require from a menu of 85 mission-critical services including those tied to security, software and virtualization.”
