Why Xobni broke off the acquisition deal with Microsoft

Shane Schick writes about why he’s decided to add more information on his Facebook profile Web page.

“Although I set up a Facebook profile in order to administrate our publication’s group, I had put off filling out the details because it’s not a way I tend to communicate. A friend of mine – who has recently surpassed the 1,000 friend mark – changed my mind, when he pointed out that there are many people he knows he can contact through Facebook, but who tend to be unavailable any other way. Although I’m more of LinkedIn guy, that got me thinking, so I have added more information to my profile.”

“VMware hasn’t sewn up the market quite yet, but Microsoft’s got a tough row to hoe to win the virtualization game. Both Virtual Machine Manager 2008 and Hyper-V have to shine in order to make this happen. Skepticism will abound until we see some big successes by Hyper-V and VMM, and competitive wins against VMware.”

Xobni walks away from a Microsoft deal

Erick Schonfeld looks at the latest news between Xobni and Microsoft’s acquisition plans.

“After negotiating over the past few weeks with Microsoft and signing a letter of intent to be acquired, e-mail startup Xobni has walked from the deal, according to a source close to the negotiations. The deeper that Xobni got into the discussions, the less comfortable it felt about its eventual fate inside the Microsoft machine. The fear was that Xobni would end up nothing more than a feature of Outlook.”
