Sharky notes that University of California-Irvine researchers have found that the habit of checking up on blogs can be just as a habit as checking for e-mail.

“‘They found that regular blog reading can become ‘an Internet ritual,’ with the content secondary to the process of checking for new posts. The researchers said this is much like the routine of checking e-mail regardless of whether a new message is expected or not.’”

Dell is latest to plan a $400 laptop>

John Morris comments on Dell’s decision to work with manufacturer, Compal to build a low-cost notebook in the $400 to $500 price range.

“(The Dell version) will go on sale in the second quarter. The company believes these low-cost laptops–along with related products such as ultra-mobile PCs (UMPCs) and mobile Internet devices (MIDs)–will grow rapidly starting this year. The company predicts total low-cost laptop shipments this year will be about 6 million units.”

Yahoo enters the analytics business by acquiring IndexTools

Duncan Riley looks at Yahoo’s acquisition of IndexTools, a Web analytics software business.

“Yahoo said in a statement that upon completion of the acquisition, IndexTools’ assets well be used to expand Yahoo’s set of online marketing services, with additional capabilities enabling third-party developers to monitor and optimize the traffic performance of their applications to follow later in the year.”
