Ingram Micro Canada’s Mark Snider gets some help

With the promotion of David Mason to the role of vice-president, sales for Ingram Micro Canada, Mark Snider says he’ll be able to focus more on the strategic vision of the distributor in his role as general manager.

Snider had been performing both functions since Ingram’s tandem GMs experiment, where he shared the GM’s duties with Charlie Spanno, came to an end last year. Snider had also been assisted on the sales side by Brent McCarty. However, with McCarty’s recent promotion to vice-president and general manager of DBL Distributing, Ingram’s recently acquired consumer electronics-focused distribution business based on Phoenix, Snider said he decided it was time to fill the VP sales position.

“It was part of our plan to have a VP sales replacement, and we thought this would be an opportune time to name Dave as VP sales,” said Snider. “Dave will be focused on everything I was focused on before: building the revenue and gross profit of Ingram across all our business divisions.

A 13-year veteran of Ingram Micro Canada, Mason has previously served as senior director of sales for the distributor’s major accounts, direct marketers and communications service provider divisions.

In his new position, Mason will take responsibility for all Canadian sales operations, including inside sales and field sales. He’ll report to Snider and to Brian Wiser, senior vice-president of sales and marketing for Ingram Micro North America.

“Primarily, we want him to keep the momentum going we’ve already had,” said Snider. “It does allow him a greater focus at the partner level and it allows me to focus more on strategic initiatives.”

McCarty’s move from Canada to lead DBL in the U.S. shouldn’t be taken as a sign DBL will be coming to Canada, said Snider. But that’s not to say it won’t be either. Snider said Ingram has an internal development program to groom and recruit executives, and McCarty was chosen out of a pool of internal applicants for the DBL position.

“However, knowing Brent as well as I do, I think he’ll be pushing to at least have some of those product lines come up here to Canada,” said Snider.

The moves by Mason and McCarty are just the latest in a series of personnel changes at the distributor. Snider said the spate of changes relates to the fact Ingram is a company that encourages people to develop their career and their skills and advance. He adds there will be at least one more position to be filled soon: Mason’s old position.

“Dave’s actively recruiting for his replacement right now, and part of his criteria is looking for people that can move beyond that job,” said Snider.
