The Capris Group: A Virtual Desktop + Hyper-V love story
Capris Group delivers
The Capris Group is a custom development and IT Managed Service organization that provides a full suite of solutions for customers ranging in size from SMBs to Fortune 100s. Headquartered in Mississauga, ON, with a branch office in Westford, MA, Capris provides custom application development as well as custom hosted infrastructures and disaster recovery implementations served from the owned and operated Capris Data Centre. Capris has partnered with Dell and Microsoft® to deliver an integrated and scalable infrastructure for their customers.
The customer is always up
“From a technology perspective, Dell provides powerful infrastructure,” says Joe Damiani, Vice President, Product Development at Capris. “And Microsoft provides an integrated solution suite that made it an easy decision for us.”
Dell hardware played a vital role in the recent expansion of Capris’ data centre and emergency office facility. Capris now not only has a data centre that provides security, reliability and availability for its customers' business critical applications, it also has physical office space that allows customers' businesses to continue operating during a crisis.
“That came in handy during the G20,” says Damiani. “Some customers couldn’t work downtown; and they had a fully-functioning office right here. For any emergency such as a flood or power outage, our customers can work in our emergency office space connected to their systems in our Data Centre. We offer a complete IT and Business Contingency solution to keep them running.”
How can Capris pull this off? By using a Virtual Desktop solution powered by Dell infrastructure, as well as Microsoft® Hyper-V™ virtualization to offer the availability, scalability and flexibility to their diverse – and often demanding – customer base.

A one stop shop
“It is important for us to be able to function as a ‘one stop shop’, for all of our customers,” says Damiani. “As their trusted advisor, we help them meet their business needs leveraging our core services, whether it is custom development, managed hosting, SaaS, or disaster recovery.”
One example is Toronto-headquartered Genuine Health, which utilizes several Capris services including its Cloud based Hosted Exchange email and SharePoint services, Capris hosting and Capris development services.
"For an SMB like Genuine Health, Capris Software as a Service delivering Microsoft Hosted Exchange and Windows SharePoi nt Services on Dell infrastructure can deliver care free reliability and performance," says Damiani.
This allows Genuine Health’s IT department to focus on core business challenges, freeing them to leverage the competitive advantage of technology without being distracted by non-business issues. They can also have piece of mind knowing that their infrastructure is in good hands. This goes for Capris, too, which notes that a good working partnership with a vendor can make a huge difference.
“Dell has proven that they really care about their channel and the SMB market,” says Damiani. “They are a true partner working with us to develop and land business – they care about what they do and it is a win-win relationship for us and our customers.”
