Qdata - Best Collaborative Solution

The Longo Brothers and Fruit Market supermarket chain is only successful if its warehouses run efficiently. But, in a growing and complex world, rising labour and fuel costs put stress on profits and the need to improve warehouse management systems became of paramount importance.

Enter Jennifer, the name of an innovative voice-directed warehouse management solution created by solution provider Lucas Systems Inc. and augmented for Longo’s by this year’s Gold winner in the Best Collaborative Solution category, Markham, Ont.-based Qdata. Qdata is a solutions expert in the field of bar coding, RFID and wireless. It partnered with Lucas Systems, a 10 year-old solution provider based in Wexford, Penn. Lucas’ expertise is in developing voice-based solutions for warehouse and distribution centre operations.

These two top notch solution providers delivered a voice-directed warehouse management solution that combines RF Plus for effective inventory tracking along with a voice picking system.

This combined system enabled order pickers at Longo’s to capture the weight of products being picked, by scanning barcode on product cases. The Jennifer system communicates in real-time to the RF Plus system, delivering efficient, effective RF-based inventory control. “We are pleased to be recognized by the CDN Channel Elite Awards for our innovative warehouse management solutions and strong partnership with Lucas Systems,” said Randall Bunka, vice-president and co-owner of Qdata. “This honour validates the value proposition of Qdata and our growing success in the marketplace.”

John Charleson, director, supply chain management and Information Technology at Longo’s, said having a great service, product or company is never enough on its own; the market has to be aware of it. “This award brings into sharp focus the efforts that both large and small companies need to achieve their goals in the market.”

Both companies delivered key components to the overall solution and trust was established when Qdata opened up its project management portal to Lucas Systems. This led to resolving issues faster for the customer’s benefit.

“This CDN Award recognizes the unique value-add the Lucas and Qdata partnership is delivering to customers like Longo’s,” says Chris Sweeney, senior vice-president at Lucas Systems. “Our companies share a commitment to working closely with customers to deliver applications optimized for their operations and business requirements, rather than selling them undifferentiated, voice-enabled WMS systems. This award also validates our partnership approach, which is focused on working with complementary warehouse technology vendors that can deliver customer-focused solutions rather than reselling one-size-fits-all applications. This approach only works when both partners bring unique know-how and expertise to the table, which delivers far better customer results.”
