Fire risk: Lenovo expands recall of ThinkCentre all-in-ones

Lenovo has again expanded the recall of some ThinkCentre all-in-one desktops that could catch a fire due a component defect, which could cause a system to fail.

The PC maker is now recalling 188,000 ThinkCentre M70z and ThinkCentre M90z all-in-ones due to faulty power supply that can cause systems to catch fire, according to a recall webpage on the company’s website. Lenovo has received two reports of fire due to overheating.

Lenovo previously recalled around 63,500 M70z and M90z models sold worldwide between May 2010 and March this year due to the fire hazard. The earlier recalls were conducted with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which asked consumers to immediately stop using the computers.

ThinkCentre desktops are all-in-one PCs with all components integrated inside a monitor. Lenovo is providing a tool for consumers to verify systems that would qualify on its recall website.

PCs that qualify can be verified by four-digit machine type and seven-digit serial number, which can found on a label underneath the PC.

Lenovo is also recommending that as additional systems have been added to the recall, “those customers who previously screened their systems against this recall should re-screen their systems.”

Earlier models that were recalled have manufacturing date code numbers 001 to 012, 101 to 112, 201 to 203, 1201 to 1203, 1001 to 1012 and 1101 to 1112.

U.S. and Canada residents can also call Lenovo customer service at 1-855-248-2194. International customer service contacts are available on Lenovo’s website.
